The capital city of ancient empire was built mostly following the imaginary models of the celestial palaces. The traditional structure of archway combines all the ancient architectural features, such as the roof, colorful painting ,balk, arch bracket and altar-shape column base all in one, normally being located at the major intersections to serve glorious and commemorative purposes. The archway of Grand Hotel Beijing was built according to the highest specification of its kind that boasts four columns and seven flights of arches. On top of the archway the beast hump and birds beak are all complete. Under the eavesdropping, the support blocks are colorfully painted with golden dragon patterns.

Right in the middle of the Lobby is a masterpiece named Picture of Snow Mountain by Wu Guan Zhong, a great genius painter of China. Mr. Wu Guanzhong is one of the top ten masters of painting of the 20th century, along with Qi Baishi, Huang Binhong, Xu Beihong and Zhang Daqian. In 1989, when the opening of the Grand Hotel Beijing was imminent, Wu Lao, who was 70 years old at that time, specially created and paint the "Snow Mountain " for the hotel. This giant painting hangs at the main entrance of the hotel, with 4.7 meters high and 4.3 meters wide, occupying a two-story high wall.

In the Atrium of the hotel, there is a magnificent structure named as the Toast Terrace, Which is built on the prototype of the age-old view of Da Shui Fa (meaning Great Fountain ) in Yuanmingyuan Garden. The strong Roman architectural style of this structure sufficiently reflects the attitude of Qing Dynasty court during Qianlong’s Reign that advocated an integration of Chinese and foreign architectural mannerism and preferences, which givers rise to a dense artistic affection.

Guan Shanyue, a master of traditional Chinese painting, is one of the representative figures of the contemporary Lingnan School in China, and his paintings are mostly huge works, imposing and majestic. The huge painting "Three Friends of the Cold Years" located on the third floor of the Hotel is written by Master Guan Shanyue. In Chinese painting, pine, bamboo and plum are often expressed the people’s personality and integrity of sticking and not succumbing to harsh environments and situations.

The Fountain of Twelve Chinese Zodiac Animals in the Atrium of the hotel is built after the similar structure in Hai Yan Hall of the Yuanmingyuan Garden of Qing Dynasty, the twelve vivid –looking holy figures symbolizing the twelve Chinese zodiac animals are arranged in an array of semi-circle, they also represent the twelve prime hours in the Chinese time-piece culture. The fountain is indeed exclusive in hotels in Beijing as well as in the world.

At the right side of the Palace View Terrace on the 10th floor, there stands a Four-God Lamp，the replica of sculpture masterpiece of Tang Dynasty. The stone column has a diameter of about 12 inches, carved with romantic cloud patterns, on top of the stone columns are vivid carvings of the four gods of the Chinese mythological tradition named “Dark Dragon, White Tiger, Red Bird, Brown tortoise”.

Ancient China believed that Kylin, phoenix, turtle and dragon were divine animals, so they were called the four spirits as a sign of auspiciousness. Sitting on the top floor platform of the Hotel, overlooking the west, the bronze unicorn is more majestic under the magnificent scenery, and also complements the carved jade masonry of white jade, blending into the beautiful view.

Located on the tenth floor of the hotel, the Bamboo Hall is a small banquet hall with a unique scenery, surrounded by three glass curtain walls, and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Forbidden City. On the front wall of the hall, four ink bamboos picture painted in different colors in spring, summer, autumn and winter are the masterpieces of the late famous Chinese calligrapher Mr. Qi Gong.

Tracing the history of China for thousand years, after countless dynastic changes, there is always a pair of majestic stone lions in front of the royal buildings and official palaces. In every New Year's holiday, a folk performance of the lion dancing come to the people, walking through the streets and alleys to play and compete for hydrangeas.
